At Home

I used to calculate eternity,
but the math is too difficult now.

Angels gather around me,
ministering golden words.

I reject them, one by one,
until heaven is exhausted

and demons step in, dragging
welcome darkness with them.

I am more at home among cinders
than among the silvery clouds.
